Audit Yorkshire colleagues step out for NHS Organ Donation Week
From parkruns to the school run, magical woodland trails to dreary supermarket aisles, colleagues have been putting their best foot forward to raise awareness of organ donation and to honour organ donors, their recipients and those waiting for a life-saving transplant.
A team of twelve took up the ‘Race for Recipients’ challenge and achieved an impressive 458.4 km between them by logging the distances they walked, ran and cycled during their daily activities for a week. This put them 9th of 20 teams in Yorkshire, against some much bigger competitors, and helped the region to finish in third place nationally!
Several dogs benefitted from extra walkies and holiday strolls were included from as far afield as Newcastle and Normandy.
Organ Donation Week 2023 aims to encourage at least 25,000 people to register to become organ donors for the first time. According to the NHS Blood and Transplant website there are currently more than 7,000 people waiting for an organ transplant in the UK.
Each year, hundreds of opportunities for transplants are missed because families aren't sure what to do. If you want to be an organ donor after you die, it's really important that you talk to your loved ones and make sure they understand and support your organ donation decision.
More information about organ donation can be found on the organ donation website and you can also register your decision online.
